Crunching the F Data

General:

The data shows 965 coupes and 248 converts (1213 total). Production figures from other sources says 964 and 248 (1212 total). We are off by 1 coupe and I have not found the error.
There is one record which states “Abandoned to Carrier”. We have seen this in other years as well. We can only guess what might have happened in these situations.

Once again white was the most popular as there were 685 cars built in WW1 Alaskan White. There were 252 cars in BB1 Formal Black, 140 in PP1 Toreador Red, 87 in ZZ1 Terra Cotta. Compared to other years there were quite a few Fs built with special order paint (code 999). 28 were coupes, 9 convertibles. In addition, there were 3 coupes in TT1 Daytona Sand, and 2 coupes in UU1 Autumn Haze. We also have a handfull of one-offs; there was one coupe with AA1 Sunburst, one coupe and one convertible in DD1 Polar Blue, one coupe in GG1 Ivy Green, one coupe in LL1 Sheffield Silver, one coupe in PW2 (Toreador red roof on Alaskan White body), and one coupe with paint 221 (unknown).

There were 39 cars with the special order interior (code 888); 24 coupes, 15 convertibles. There were three convertibles that were both 888 and 999.

The 300F is famous for its Flite Sweep deck lid but not every F got one. From Gil Cunningham: There are four F's known with the non-Flite Sweep deck lid. 3 of the 4 have code 602 which indicates that the customer ordered the car without the Flite Sweep deck lid. On the track sheet, the deck lid change is not coded, necessitating the teletype message "SPECIAL ORDER, SPEC DECK LID". Here is one of those track sheets.

The earliest ship date we have is November 17th, 1959; a white coupe. The last record is for a black coupe shipped July 8th, 1960. This is a graph of monthly production figures.

1,200 records have the normal 96 code for tires (Whitewall BlueStreak). One car is code 97 and this car happens to be the first car built. One had no code at all. 11 cars have code 99. 1 of these is a convert which also happens to be 999 paint. One of the coupes happens to be Carl Kiekhaefer’s F with 999 paint. We don’t know if tire code 99 would mean Captive Air tires; we only know it means special tires.
